Condensed Milk Sponge Cake

Nothing beats a sponge cake  made using sweetened condensed milk. There is something about the sweet, sticky ingredient that makes everything taste better. This condensed milk cake is no exception. Itโ€™s sweet, dense and makes the perfect afternoon tea treat. This cake is also perfect if you are on a budget.

Even better, this cake features only 5 basic ingredients. A one bowl recipe ;  as simple as putting all of the ingredients in either a stand mixer or a mixing bowl, and beating with the stand mixer or electric beaters until a smooth batter has formed.

Pour into a baking tin, bake and serve. This cake doesnโ€™t need icing, but is great dusted with a little icing sugar. Itโ€™s also amazing served with fresh cream and berries.

Ingredients for condensed milk cake

  • ย sweetened condensed milk
  • ย cups self raising flour
  • eggs
  • ย butter, melted
  • vanilla essence/paste
  • Icing sugar for dusting, optional
  • This cake really could not be simpler. Before making a start on the recipe, preheat the oven and line a round cake tin with baking paper.

METHOD OF PREPARATION

  • To make the cake batter, you will need either a stand mixer or a large mixing bowl and electric hand held beaters. Add the sweetened condensed milk, self raising flour, eggs and butter to the stand mixer or large mixing bowl. Beat until all ingredients are well combined and the batter is smooth.

  • Pour the cake batter into the prepared cake tin. Bake for 40 minutes, or until cooked through. Allow to cool in the tin before dusting with icing sugar.


Instructions

Preheat oven to 170c. Grease a round cake tin and set aside.

Add the sweetened condensed milk, self raising flour, eggs and melted butter to a stand mixer or mixing bowl. Beat using the stand mixer or electric beaters until the batter is smooth and well combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared tin. Bake for 40 minutes, or until cooked through.

Allow the cake to cool in the tin completely before removing. Dust with icing sugar if desired and serve.

Store any leftover cake in an airtight container at room temperature.
